The Netherlands, or as we know it, Holland, is a modern first world country in Central Europe. The country consists of 12 provinces, of which North and South Holland are two. For this reason we sometimes also speak of Holland. The Netherlands is as big as the Kruger National Park and 18 million people live here in an orderly manner. It is one of the most densely populated parts of the world. The Netherlands has no mountains, except in the very southern part. This makes it such an ideal country for cycling and that is why it is also part of the culture to ride a bike. The special cycle paths, the preference for cyclists and the wonderful bicycles, make it the ideal cycling country. The bicycle then becomes the most important means of transport for the au pair. No au pair should have a problem with this, because it is done the way it is done in the Netherlands.

The Netherlands is so centrally located in Europe that it is very easy to just go to Paris for a weekend. Au Pairs also regularly visit famous cities in Europe and in the summer holidays, countries such as Spain, Italy, France, are very popular and even countries such as Sweden, Russia and Croatia have also been visited by au pairs.

The Netherlands itself is rich in attractions. All kinds of museums, from the Rembrandt to the sex museum – and everything in between. It is a highly developed technological country. As a low-lying country (hence the name) that has been flooded in the past, brilliant engineering skills have been developed, namely the Delta Works, to prevent this from ever happening again. Furthermore, the Netherlands is known for its tulips, windmills and clogs. Not to mention all the types of cheese.

The Netherlands also has a royal house, the House of Orange. King Willem Alexander and his Queen, Maxima, with their 3 daughters are very popular among the population. Every year on April 27, King’s Day is also celebrated. Au pairs are part of this celebration and also other celebrations throughout the year.
